Think of learning a language like putting together a jigsaw puzzle. A large puzzle of the entire subject that you’re looking to learn. When you start off, you’re only creating the fringes of your puzzles – the edges. There’s so much to fill in the middle. No teacher, textbook, story book, video or podcast can fill that entire language puzzle for you.

What you need to do to complete your jigsaw is to try to fit a number of pieces in different ways to create links between pieces. The same way, with language learning, you need to expose yourself to as much of the language as possible to slowly fill in the gaps and create the overall picture. Each level -A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1 only opens you up to new grammar structures so that you can explore more content. With more content comes more vocabulary and a deeper understanding of how Spanish is spoken. With more exposure to songs, books, podcasts, videos and grammar exercise books, you will slowly start filling your puzzle in to gain mastery over the Spanish language.
It is frustrating to not be able to speak Spanish or make coherent sentences right off the bat. But with a good exposure to new words from a variety of sources, you will find that over time words and sentences come easily. Don’t give up, keep reading, keep listening and keep practicing! It will get easier 🙂
